NEWS: 

We no longer offer Hillary James' designs hand-painted on children's furnishings, except for occasional commissioned pieces..   You can still get her designs on clocks, baby clothes, and other items, as well as commissioned paintings.   After a very gratifying 11 years as an online-only, custom painted children's furnishings store, Hillary has decided to concentrate on fine art, design and illustration.   She is currently at work on illustrating two children's books.  For information on licensing Hillary's art for product, visit Hillary James.

We will continue to offer the high end furniture that we always have, but now it will be available in vintage/distressed solid colors only.

What We Do

At for Mercy's sake, we offer fine adults' and children's  furniture made from sustainable wood in a variety of colors and finishes.  You can also find less expensive, but still high quality furniture and accessories for toddlers to teens, as well as fine art prints, wall clocks, original art for kids and adults, and commissioned art.

Some of Hillary's designs are available on fine giclee reproductions and murals by Oopsy Daisy Fine Art for Kids and have been licensed for rugs, paper products, giant murals and digitized art.

The Artist
Hillary James is a native Austinite and is primarily self-taught. Since starting for Mercy's sake in 1996, a few months after her daughter's birth, she's had tremendous success.  Hillary has clients from Hawaii to England and loves creating custom oversized artwork for children or adults - in her whimsical, retro, or her more abstract styles.

Her art is sold in fine children's boutiques nationwide as well as Neiman Marcus online.

The Namesake
Mercy is the namesake and inspiration of the company.   Being Hillary's daughter, she thinks it's perfectly normal to redecorate her room every 3 or 4 months.  She's very proud of her younger brother, Dalton, who keeps asking why we don't answer the phone "for Dalton's sake."

The Director of Everything Else
Cindy Clements Blewett is Hillary's mother and Vice-President of for Mercy's sake, inc. as well as the owner of her own web design and Internet marketing business.

for Mercy's sake art and furniture has been featured (not advertised) in numerous print and electronic publications. We've also been asked to supply furniture for movies (e.g. Mr & Mrs. Smith, to name one) and television (HGTV, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, etc.), but most of the time they need the furniture in a week or two and since all our work is custom, we rarely have anything in stock.
